Mid February 2022 I felt stuck. I had no idea which way to go with my work. Too many ideas but none that felt like they had any potential further than the initial making. So in my frustration, I decided to forget the end goal and undertake a disciplined exercise of creating one page a day for 100 days. No planning. No judging. To just make whatever came to mind in the moment. Little did I realise just how long 100 days was. I made it to 50, and only created pages six days a week not seven, but it did prove to be an incredibly fruitful exercise. I settled into a rhythm and found creative ease. A lot of colour and pattern emerged. Then came the words. Using an old typewriter I found in a vintage shop and a freshly inked ribbon, I typed the thoughts that popped into my head as I was painting. It was meditative. Expressive. The end result has become a reference book for further paintings, collage and works with colour and pattern. I continue to use text in my current collage work. It is an exciting, evolving process.
